High   Altitude   Nutrition

· Expedition Peak Lenin - 2008

Let's scrutinize the outline itinerary in order to calculate exactly how much high altitude nutrition the participants of the expedition have to bring with them from Osh to Base camp. We cut those days when high altitude nutrition is not necessary.

DAY 4. Base Camp - Camp 1, 4200 m. Accommodation in double tents of CAA. Dinner at the mess-tent of Camp-1.

Lunch-1/between BC and Camp-1

DAY 5. Camp 1 - Camp 2 (5300 m.), in order to drop there the stuff necessary for the further ascent. Setting Camp 2 and return to Camp 1.

Lunch-2/at Camp-2 (5300 m.)

DAY 8. Camp 1 - Camp 2. Overnight in tents at Camp 2.

Lunch-3/at Camp-2 (5300 m.), Dinner-1/at Camp-2 (5300 m.)

DAY 9. Camp 2 - Camp 3 (6100 m.), in order to drop there the stuff necessary for the further ascent. Setting Camp 3 and return to Camp 2.

Breakfast-1/at Camp-2 (5300 m.), Lunch-4/at Camp-3 (6100 m.), Dinner-2/at Camp-2 (5300 m.)

DAY 10. Camp 2 - Base Camp.

Breakfast-2/at Camp-2 (5300 m.)

DAY 13. Base Camp - Camp 1.

Lunch-5/between BC and Camp-1

DAY 14. Camp 1 - Camp 2.

Lunch-6/at Camp-2 (5300 m.), Dinner-3/at Camp-2 (5300 m.)

DAY 15. Camp 2 - Camp 3. Overnight in tents at Camp 3.

B-3/at Camp-2 (5300 m.), L-7/at Camp-3 (6100 m.), D-4/at Camp-3 (6100 m.)

DAY 16. Camp 3 - Summit.

B-4/at Camp-3 (6100 m.), L-8/pocket nutrition for the summit attempt, D-5/at Camp-3 (6100 m.)

DAY 17. Camp 3 - Camp 1.

B-5/at Camp-3 (6100 m.), L-9/at Camp-2 (5300 m.)

DAY 18. Camp 1 - Base Camp.

L-10/between BC and Camp-1

So, those participants of the expedition, who follow the outline itinerary, have to bring with them some amount of high altitude nutrition which one would be at least enough for serving:

BREAKFAST - 5 times

LUNCH - 10 times

DINNER - 5 times

RE MEALS ON RESERVE DAYS:

We do advice to bring in addition some "survival kit" of high altitude nutrition in order to use it in case of quite possible longer hanging at Camp-2 or Camp-3 due to bad weather conditions. It is necessary to be 100% ready for the case when reserve days would be spent above Base Camp and Camp-1 (three reserve days mentioned in the Outline Itinerary).
